Rose Hips & Dormant Dreams

Our morning walks are a push through a soft and low slant of early-day light that creates surprising shadows upon the mossy woodland trail and among the evergreen landscape. These are the morning ghosts, apparitions that fade as the Earth carries on across its daily trajectory.  In this gentle blurry light, even the twiggy remnants of the once lovely wild rose seems somehow soft.  I take a closer look at the thorny bramble that weaves an intricate network of sticks and stems, and notice a handful of resilient rose hips clinging stubbornly to the brittle vines. These little pops of darkening red are filled with seeds that will not grow. Yet.

I think of my dreams, goals, aspirations, ideas, that are bundled up inside, lingering little nudges that have never sprouted.   Just as rose hips left clinging to the vine become mere remnants of what could have been, unrealized goals become fragments of our untapped potential, a reminder of the opportunities that have evaporated and now dwell with the realm of the morning ghosts. This insight underscores the importance of nurturing our aspirations, allowing them to fall, take root, and blossom into a bouquet of a life well-lived.  While my dreams are held tightly, there is no risk: no potential embarrassment, no potential failure.  No Potential at all.

The pursuit of our dreams is a journey fraught with uncertainty and fear. The prospect of stepping into the unknown, facing potential setbacks, and challenging the status quo can be terrifying. It is this fear that often holds us back, keeps our grip tight and persistent, and chokes our ideas.  A practice of mindfulness can help us overcome apprehensions. It can help guide us through trepidation and help us dismantle the barriers that impede action. Mindfulness allows us to name our ambitions with clarity, recognizing them not as elusive fantasies but as tangible goals that deserve pursuit. Mindfulness empowers us to break down our aspirations into manageable steps, fostering a proactive mindset that turns fear into motivation and helps us reach our potential.  So, drop those seeds of inspiration and let your dreams take root!
